URBAN LUMBER

Reclaimed Wooden mosaic applies the timbers from old ships, which set sail from the harbors along Europe and Asia.

Natural Mosaic Tiles are made from reclaimed wood from Vietnamese fishing boats. The wood selected to build ships is unique in many ways. It must grow for hundreds of years before it is sturdy enough to use as Ship Wood. The tree encounters rains and storms, becoming old growth heartwood that is much more stable and dry than the typical “sap” wood found today. This wood is used to build wooden ships that endure even more years of exposure to the sea and the elements. Eventually, these ships are retired but rather than making them landfill the wood is reused (reclaimed). Reclaimed wood is distinguished from recycled wood or reused wood in that it is usually remanufactured in some manner for reuse in a new form. It is transformed from one incarnation to the next. In this case wood goes from ship to mosaic wood tiles, mosaic wall tiles, or wood ceiling tiles
ship salvage comes from "ship breaking" yards around the world and is  actually salvaged from working vessels

Environmental Benefits of using All Natural Wall Covering and Wood Tiles

  • Most virgin forests are gone or inaccessible, making reclaimed wood the only way to get this quality of wood without cutting down any existing trees.
  • Using Reclaimed wood has become a more and more desirable choice amongst builders, homeowners, and business owners as it is a socially responsible green building material.
  • All of our Wall Coverings are PVC free, contain recycled content and are made from rapidly renewable

Decking - artificial grass can compliment decking in 2 ways.

It can be used as a covering for it if people want a softer 'carpet' under their feet or it can be installed at the side of the decking providing a nice transition from the wooden surface onto the lawn.

Roof gardens. If your roof is not strong enough to support a natural turf cover then artificial grass will fill in very nicely. It also means that you don’t need to worry about the grass clippings.

High wear and tear areas. Very often, especially with children, you can end up with parts of the garden where constant usage will not allow grass to grow properly and bald patches which can turn to mud cause real problems. Carefully laid artificial grass can blend in with surrounding features and help overcome this.

Ipe woods tough woods

What is it? Also called Brazilian walnut, ipe (pronounced ee-pay) wood is typically found in South America and some parts of Central America. It is one of the densest hardwoods available, three times harder than cedar. Ipe has the same fire rating as concrete and steel, meaning it resists flames much longer than softer woods, and is so dense that it doesn't float in water.

How is it used? Because of its durability, ipe wood often is used outdoors as decking and siding. Inside, it's typically seen in flooring or cabinetry. For indoor use, the wood has to be kiln-dried to remove moisture, which keeps it from warping or cracking, says Scott Zubrow, architectural specialist at General Woodcraft in New London, Conn.

Ipe wood lasts a minimum of 25 years, although many architects say it can last up to half a century if maintained properly.
Pros: Like redwood, it has a natural oil that keeps bugs out; it's resistant to mildew and decay, making it ideal for coastal construction. Ipe wood lasts a minimum of 25 years, although many architects say it can last up to half a century if maintained properly.

Cons Holes must be predrilled for screws. Its high oil and tannin content makes it difficult for paint to adhere. The hardness makes it unsuitable for intricate woodworking.
